Itching to play but no starter sets in sight!
If you are having trouble finding and purchasing a Monsterpocalypse starter set, never fear! You can jump into the game immediately by using some simple options to supplement the play mat, health tracker and dice you need to begin brawling and blasting right away!
We at Privateer Press are aware that Monsterpocalypse™ starter sets may be a little difficult to come by for the time being, but take heart. You can obtain the core elements of a starter set through other means and dive right into the game while you wait to get your hands on a starter of your own. You just need a play mat, a health tracker, and some dice.
1. Play Mat
- Simply find another player who already has a play mat! Two players only need one play mat, so if you can play with another player who has a map, or is willing to lend you one, you are all set.
- Purchase the Monsterpocalypse Rise Strategy Guide ($14.99 at your local game shop). It comes with one double-sided map all set for your city-smashing mayhem. One side is “Kill-Again’s Island” and the other is “Riverside Rampage.”
- Purchase the Series 1: Rise Map Pack coming in December. It contains 6 new play mats. Even if you already have a play mat to use, you will definitely want to pick up the Series 1: Rise Map Pack because of the large impact the play mat can have on gameplay. Just by swapping out the play mat you can vary your game experience a greatly.
- If you just cannot wait to play and absolutely must have a map right now, click this link to download a PDF file of the “Block War” map. You’ll use a good deal of printer ink and you’ll have to tape the map together, but you will have immediate access to a map that can get you started immediately.
2. Health Trackers
- Purchase a Monsterpocalypse Accessory Pack coming in November. Not only will the Accessory Pack include a health tracker, but it will also include a set of dice and 31 colored ID rings you can use to tell your figure’s apart from the competition.
- This is an easy one—just use pencil and paper! Make sure to recycle afterward if you're playing Terra Khan or Armodax. They will stomp your house if you don’t recycle!
- You can also use two 10–sided dice (each of a different color) to represent each monster form’s health (treating each ‘0’ as a ‘0’ instead of a ‘10’). Just make sure you keep them away from your dice pools and don’t accidentally roll them!
3. Dice
- Purchase a Monsterpocalypse Accessory Pack. With a set of dice, a health tracker, and enough colored ID rings to identify a full force and city, and can you go wrong?
- In the absence of official Monsterpocalypse dice, the easiest solution is to use your own dice from a variety of games and in a variety of colors to represent the white Action dice, blue Boost Dice, and red Power Dice. Here is a chart showing how to use normal 6-sided dice:
Action Dice (you need 10) white, light grey, or beige is preferred Boost Dice (you need 4 or more) blue or green is preferred Power Dice (you need 10) red, orange, or brown is preferred - Miss

- Many game stores sell blank 6-sided dice. If you want to spend a little extra money, you can purchase 10 white, 10 red, and at least 4 blue blank dice and mark them with a permanent marker. They may not look as cool, but they will be a good substitute until you can get your hands on official Monsterpocalypse dice.
NOTE: Until otherwise announced – these options for substitute play materials are tournament legal in official Monsterpocalypse organized play events. We require that you inform your tournament organizer of any such substitutions prior to beginning play. Most importantly, if using dice other than official Monsterpocalypse dice, you must inform your opponent and you must bring the chart above so that your opponent understands the conversion from normal 6-sided dice to Action, Boost, and Power Dice.
We at Privateer Press know that it will be only a short time before you are able to get your hands on a Monsterpocalypse starter set. In the meantime, use these helpful options to speed you on your way to crushing, smashing, and rumbling.
